Integra Completes Expansion of Infrastructure
Integra Completes Expansion of Infrastructure
Written by Press Room Link
Integra, a provider of fiber-based, carrier-grade networking, communications and technology solutions, has completed a broad-scale expansion of its IP and carrier Ethernet network infrastructure in Montana. The expansion enhances the services available and increases bandwidth in the Billings and Bozeman areas.
By connecting its backbone national IP network to its metro network in the state, Integra can now deliver its complete portfolio of enterprise-grade offerings, featuring Carrier Ethernet Services, IP/ MPLS VPN and Managed and Cloud Services, including Integra's Hosted Voice Service and Cloud Firewall Service, to businesses throughout Billings and Bozeman. In addition, Integra's Montana customers can take advantage of high bandwidth Internet connectivity nationwide. This expansion is part of an ongoing strategic initiative by Integra to expand services due to increased demand for its carrier Ethernet services and other enterprise solutions from industries such as health care, government and education as well as professional services.
To meet that demand, Integra has extended its Ethernet services in Montana, with Ethernet-over-copper-based services supporting network bandwidths of up to 100 Mbps and fiber-based services offering speeds up to 1 Gbps. In Billings, Integra's expansion puts nearly 100 business locations on or near Integra's fiber-based network. "Integra has deep roots in Montana, with more than 15 years serving businesses in its economically diverse, hard-working communities," noted Joseph Harding, chief marketing officer of Integra. "Driven by several fast-growing industries, Billings and Bozeman are rich with businesses that need reliable, high-bandwidth network solutions backed by a level of personalized service they have come to expect from Integra.
These are exciting times in Montana and we're proud to put our people and capital to work to help support this growth." Among the Billings-area customers taking advantage of Integra's portfolio of products is the Northern Hotel. Restored by brothers Chris and Mike Nelson to its historic elegance while providing the most modern of four-star amenities, the Northern Hotel relies on Integra voice and data services for dependable and cost-efficient network communications. "When it came to incorporating their first-class services across our operations, Integra was truly a pleasure to do business with," said Mike Nelson, the Northern Hotel's general manager.
"When we bought the Northern Hotel, our commitment was to restore this one-of-a-kinlandmark to its historic place as the finest hotel in Montana, and we couldn't have done that without the business agility and level of service that partners like Integra bring to us every day."

Do You Have a Killer Communication Strategy?
By Paul McCord
Link
So many prospects and clients to kill, so little time. But don’t worry; salespeople all over the world are doing their damnedest to kill as many prospects and clients as possible every day. Their weapon of choice? Communication—or more specifically, communication fraud. I suspect you are like me, getting dozens of emails, phone calls, snail mail letters, and even face-to-face meetings with sellers who seem to have only one goal—waste as much of my time as possible.
They email and call wanting to know if I’m doing OK, or if I need anything, or if they can show me a new product or service without having the slightest idea if I need it or could actually use it. Some call to simply let me know they’re still around and want my business. Many of these intrepid sellers have bombarded me with so much time wasting junk communication that they’ve taught me to completely ignore them. When I see an email or letter from them or if I get a voice mail message from them I know that I need pay absolutely no attention to them.
Their time wasting communications have completely killed me off as a prospect—and, worse, I’ve even had some sellers kill me off as a client because of their insistence on trying to waste my time

Windstream Suffers Voice Network Outage Across Several States Thousands of Customers May Be Affected!
Windstream suffers voice network outage across several states Thousands of customers may be affected
April 29, 2013 |
By Sean Buckley
Share Tools Comment Print Contact Author Reprint Windstream (Nasdaq: WIN) reports that it is suffering a "widespread" outage on its voice network, an issue that's affecting the ability of customers in several states to make long-distance and toll free calls. The number of customers affected is not known at this time. The telco said on its website that the outage occurred around 11:30 a.m. EDT.
In addition to long-distance and toll-free voice services, the telco said on its Facebook page that the outage is affecting its ability to receive inbound calls to its support centers and that it is "investigating reports that local inbound and outbound calling also may be disrupted for some customers." Webinar: Creating new business opportunities with customer data Date: May 16, 2 pm ET / 11 am PT It's no secret that wireless operators have interesting data on their customers, but privacy concerns have always kept operators from profiting from it. Join us to discuss how operators can leverage their customer data, while still protecting customer privacy.
Windstream added that it "is working with the manufacturer on a resolution to the issue," but "an estimated time for restoral is not known." The service provider added that service will be "intermittent" until all of the problems are fixed. A number of FierceTelecom readers, commenting on an earlier report about a separate outage in South Florida, said that the the voice network outage is in 23 states. Earlier today, the telco reported that it experienced a failure on one of its switches Sunday afternoon, which interrupted service to about 30,000 local business and residential lines in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and surrounding areas. Scott Morris, senior consultant, corporate communications for Windstream, told FierceTelecom he could not confirm "how many states are involved" and that "customers are beginning to come back in service." Not surprisingly, the hardest-hit segment of the outage has been Windstream's business customers.
One customer commenting on the outage said that "those customers of ours who have reached us by email or cell phone have not been happy, and I fear we have lost some loyal clients."
FierceTelecom will continue to provide updates on the Windstream outages as needed.

A More Wiretap-Friendly Web?
(The Hosting News) –
Article Link
The U.S. government is hoping to make key internet services such as Google and Facebook more wiretap-friendly. According to a Washington Post report on Sunday, a government task force is helping craft legislation that would see fines imposed on providers that fail to comply with court-initiated wiretap requests.
Authorities have increasingly fallen behind the times in terms of technological development – something the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has referred to as a “going dark” dilemma. The FBI commonly uses wiretaps to intercept criminal behavior pertaining to terrorism, financial fraud, underage pornography and more. Tech providers refusing to agree to wiretapping could face fines in the tens of thousands.
Meanwhile, if they’re unpaid after a 90 day period, they could double on a per-day basis. The initiative will, without a doubt, prove controversial among privacy rights experts who see the move as a potential threat to the stability of the Internet’s economy. “This proposal is a non-starter that would drive innovators overseas and cost American jobs,” commented Center for Democracy senior counsel Greg Nojeim in the Washington Post’s report.
It may not be the first time the U.S. government has looked into increasing wiretaps with tech provider, however. Previous changes to popular communications program Skype reportedly made it easier for law enforcement to gain access – albeit that remains speculation.

HP Calls Out Cisco With Data-Center Switches!
HP Calls Out Cisco With Data-Center Switches
April 30, 2013
|Craig Matsumoto |
As part of a truckload of data-center announcements it made Tuesday, Hewlett-Packard Co. is bringing out new switches that target the Cisco Systems Inc. Nexus line. It's part of what's sure to be a data-center frenzy leading up to Interop next week.
Brocade Communications Systems Inc. helped get the hype machine started Tuesday, with an announcement of its own. (See Brocade Spruces Up for Data Centers.) The star of HP's show, or at least the product with the biggest number, is the FlexFabric 12900 core switch, which can fit 768 10Gbit/s ports or 256 40Gbit/s ports.
Cisco's 18-slot Nexus 7018 claims to have the same 10Gbit/s density but only has cards to support 96 40Gbit/s ports. HP is also claiming the 12900 the first chassis-based switch to support OpenFlow 1.3, the latest version of the control-plane protocol. (Earlier in April, Noviflow laid claim to the first OpenFlow 1.3 switch in general, and for what it's worth, Ixia launched what it claims is the first OpenFlow 1.3 testing gear.
Throughout May, we'll expect to see as many "firsts" as there are product categories remaining.) HP is also launching the FlexFabric 11900, which is a new data-center switch for end-of-row or aggregation purposes, and the HSR 6800, which is a smaller switch meant to compete with the Cisco ASR 1000. The FlexFabric 12900 and 11900 are due to ship in October and June, respectively. The HSR 6800 is shipping now.
Other pieces announced by HP on Tuesday include:
•A new virtual switch, the 5900V, which is based on HP's 5900 top-of-rack switch
•The intelligent resilient fabric, which links two switches at different tiers of the network -- a core switch and an access switch, for instance -- so they can operate as one logical switch
•HP's first management app for software-defined networking (SDN), running on HP's Intelligent Managment Center (IMC; the term for the company's network management software). The app can automate the OpenFlow-based configuring of a switch, and it can be used to monitor the control layer. This lets the operator know when there's a failure, or when it's time to add more OpenFlow controllers.

Telecommunications News– Integra Go To Cloud Firewall Service For Colorado Companies!
Telecommunications – Integra Telecom’s Cloud Firewall Service
Posted by Jim Warren
Businesses rely on the internet for everything from research to booking travel to interacting with partners. Despite all the amazing services, applications, and knowledge found on the Web, it presents a risk to your business. Malware, a computer application intentionally created to inflict damage by stealing data, denying services, or performing other activities that can disrupt your business, is increasingly costing businesses time, money and even reputation. Additionally, the internet provides opportunities for employees to spend unauthorized time visiting inappropriate websites. Using the internet is not optional.
However, you must take precautions to protect your business. An outsourced security solution, Integra Telecom’s Cloud Firewall Service (CFS), delivers the protection your business requires without demanding a capital expenditure or a staff of Internet security experts. CFS provides a single point of control that monitors and protects your business from the harm of dangerous Internet incidents.
It is available in several configurations that, depending upon your needs, can contain:
• An application-aware firewall
• Website filtering
• Antivirus and anti-spyware
• Intrusion detection and prevention
• File filtering
• Customizable reports
• A VPN client for remote users The elements that make up Integra’s Cloud Firewall Service deliver a highly-secure perimeter around your business’s Internet access. What has been touched upon here is a system designed to keep your business dramatically safer from the Internet’s evolving threats. Because malware is constantly becoming more complex and evasive, businesses absolutely need to consider a security deployment that is robust and stays on top and ahead of ever-changing malicious attacks. CFS is a comprehensive outsourced Internet security service that can be utilized for a fraction of the cost of in-house security solutions.
You can rely on Integra to thoroughly oversee and update these services and relentlessly defend your network from all Internet threats. Who is Integra Telecom? They connect businesses by providing business-grade networking, communications and cloud solutions to thousands of business and carrier customers in 11 Western states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The company owns and operates a nationally acclaimed best-in-class fiber-optic network consisting of a 5,000-mile high-speed long-haul network, a 3,000-mile metropolitan access network, and more than 1,700 fiber-fed buildings.

TelePacific Corp., which does business as TelePacific Communications (TelePacific), announced it is doubling its current 100 megabits per second (Mbps) data rates up to 200 megabits per second (Mbps) via its Enhanced Ethernet over Copper (EEoC) access ecosystem in California and Nevada.
EEoC combines multiple bonded copper pairs in the same access facility to provide a single high bandwidth circuit capable of supporting the most demanding voice and data services, including Ethernet private line, SIP Trunking, Internet access, MPLS and VPLS VPN. "A lot of industry observers think fiber is the future and they want to write off copper," says David Zahn, Vice President of Marketing at TelePacific. "But the reality is that fiber is only available in about 30 percent of office buildings across the nation, primarily in downtown metros and large office parks.
EEoC helps fill the void." TelePacific's EEoC services are currently available from 247 of its EoC-enabled LSOs in California and Nevada, putting an estimated quarter million small to medium sized businesses within reach of Ethernet-based broadband services that are less expensive and much faster to provision than solutions involving third-party fiber or DS-3 circuits. In addition, the number of EoC-enabled LSOs will grow to 284 during the first half of 2013.

Top Business Network Solutions Fiber-Ethernet-VOIP-SIP-Internet-Data-EOC-Cloud-Phone Network-Web Hosting for Denver Companies!
As reported, Integra Telecom has now expanded it’s service footprint for high speed Internet access to several major metropolitan areas including Phoenix, Denver, Boise, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Eugene, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Santa Rosa. Their article is quoted below: Integra Telecom has made its Ethernet over Copper (EoC) service available in 120 Central Offices (CO), a move that enables it to instantly target over 400,000 businesses in its 11-state footprint.
Integra Telecom (Photo credit: Wikipedia) This latest expansion effort illustrates that Integra has kept to its ongoing expansion plan to offer customers Ethernet in areas where it currently does not have fiber built out yet. Its current EoC drive is all about providing its Ethernet services to a larger base of new customers, but also accommodating existing multisite large local customers like retail, education and healthcare clients.
Mike Kozlowski, director of product management for transport and data at Integra, said, “With the expansion of Integra’s EoC footprint, many more Integra customers can merge their voice, data and cloud services over one highly scalable network.” A twisted pair Cat-3 or Cat-5 cable is used to connect 10BASE-T Ethernet (Photo credit: Wikipedia) With EoC, Integra will deliver bandwidth speeds of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 Mbps increments, with plans to offer a 100 Mbps speed service. In addition to data services, the expanded EoC footprint creates opportunities for the service provider to extend its growing set of managed and IP-based services such as cloud-based security and SIP Trunking to these customers.
The EoC-based service will be, of course, be complemented by its EoTDM (Ethernet over TDM) service out of 300 COs throughout the West. Besides copper and TDM, Integra continues to be aggressive on the fiber-based Ethernet front with over 2,000 buildings connected to its fiber network. During Q1 2012, the service provider added an additional 129 buildings to its on-net fiber footprint.
